IGUÁ’s main reference in this field is the Sustainability Policy, written in 2010, which explains the commitments and guidelines that guide the Company’s social and environmental operations, including relationships with the surrounding communities.

IGUÁ has six priority areas for action in the sustainability field. The transversal nature of the guidelines for each issue allows the same action to be implemented at the corporate, regional or local levels. They are:

  • Social and environmental risk management
  • Conservation of natural resources and biodiversity
  • Management and personnel development
  • Local and regional social and environmental development
  • Innovation in technologies and services
  • Accountability, transparency and ethics.

IGUÁ also maintains an Environmental Management System (SGA) that determines the guidelines, policies, sectorial plans and practices to be followed by operations. The key procedures defined by the SGA are the following:

  • Survey of environmental aspects and impacts for the implementation of mitigation and natural resource conservation initiatives;
  • Management of solid waste and effluents and partnership incentives;
  • Reduction in the consumption of fossil fuels with high emissions potential;
  • Implementation of a recycling program;
  • Reuse of materials in projects;
  • Use of biodegradable materials in the execution of services;
  • Management of energy efficiency in the treatment of water and sewage.

In addition to the social and environmental programs, IGUÁ’s operations always seek to exercise best environmental practices, with initiatives such as the reforesting of springs, mobile service calls and water reuse.
